Desktone and Molten Technologies Announce Partnership to Bring Desktops as a Service (DaaS) to Europe
15th August, 2011 – Desktone, Inc., the pioneer of Desktops as a Service (DaaS), today announced that it is partnering with Molten Technologies, a leading UK-based specialist in virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Molten is leveraging Desktone technology to deliver cloud-hosted virtual desktops.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from European businesses who want to benefit from the dramatic flexibility and cost savings possible with cloud-hosted virtual desktops. Service providers are looking for a true desktop ‘as a service’ solution to offer these businesses and they’re finding that shared desktop technologies and traditional desktop products can’t provide the flexibility, performance or ROI they require,” said Peter McKay, CEO, Desktone. “Molten is a recognized leader in helping businesses take advantage of transformational technologies. The fact that it is partnering with Desktone speaks volumes about the value that Desktone enables.”
“Virtual desktop computing has the potential to fundamentally change the way businesses operate and if it can be bought as a flexible cloud service while maintaining the sort of security control usually associated with an in-house deployment, it becomes very attractive. As the pioneer of DaaS, Desktone understands better than other vendors the nuances of delivering a robust, affordable, and reliable cloud offering. We evaluated traditional VDI vendors but realized the upfront complexity and cloud-limitations were often prohibitive. Partnering with Desktone helps us to provide the type of scalable, enterprise-class desktop services that our customers require with the option to avoid the upfront capital investment involved with building their own infrastructure,” said Robin Tapp, CEO, Molten Technologies.
Desktone launched the industry’s first purpose-built cloud-hosted virtual desktop platform more than four years ago. By building its DaaS service on Desktone technology, Molten helpscustomers instantly benefit from virtual desktops at a cost that is significantly lower than those typically associated with traditional VDI and remote desktop services (RDS) environments. In addition, Molten can offer a valuable cloud-hosted VDI service without having to build out or maintain costly, complex data center operations. Desktone was recently named a “Major Player” in desktop virtualization by IDC, which cited the company’s current strengths and long-term strategy in delivering VDI solutions.
About Desktone
Desktone is changing the way people buy and manage desktops. Desktone pioneered the concept of cloud-hosted Desktops as a Service (DaaS), the easiest and most affordable way to deploy hosted virtual desktops. The Desktone Cloud, Desktone’s DaaS offering, provides all of the benefits of virtualized desktops without any of the hassles. By delivering virtual desktops in the cloud, Desktone enables enterprises to rapidly provision desktops to users connected on any device, anywhere, without the upfront costs and complexity of traditional desktop virtualization—transforming desktops from a CAPEX to OPEX item. Founded in 2007, Desktone is funded by Highland Capital and Softbank and is headquartered in Boston, MA. For more information, visit www.desktone.com.

Molten Technologies supports Pancreatic Cancer Action
Ian Julien was much loved and respected in Molten Technologies and was our first CTO. He had depth of technical knowledge and experience matched by few and an unmatched depth of humanity. He was suddenly taken from us by Pancreatic Cancer in February 2011.
5 year survival rates for pancreatic cancer have not changed in over 40 years and it is the mission of Pancreatic Cancer Action to change this by way of increased awareness of pancreatic cancer within the general population, the medical community and the Government. We are developing educational programmes for trainee General Practitioners and are working on creating free Online Interactive Training Materials alongside the Royal College of GPs aimed at practicing clinicians; to help them spot the disease earlier and manage the condition better.
Simply, Pancreatic Cancer Action’s aim is to get more people diagnosed in time for surgery – currently the only potential for a cure.
Pancreatic Cancer Action has the support of many leading clinicians and researchers in the pancreatic cancer arena along with others whose lives have been touched by pancreatic cancer in some way.
